Encouragement is all too often a rare commodity, we all like to be on the receiving end of a compliment like a ‘well done you did great’ or ‘ you’re a champion’ etc. But how often do we think to give a compliment as an encouragement to someone.
I like this passage in Hebrews 3:13 where it says “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you maybe hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
There’s a challenge, like every day it’s saying we are to do this encouraging thing, not once a month or even once a week but every day of our lives – the inference is don’t let today finish without having given someone else the blessing of your encouragement.
As it says in another part of scripture – ” give and it will be given unto you” – what you give is going to come back to you, what a fantastic thing to have come back to us – encouragement.
The last part of that Hebrews verse says - so you won’t be hardened by sins deceitfulness. We could say then that a lack of encouragement can lead to a hard heart. We need encouragement just like we need natural food, it’s food to the soul, it gives us the strength and the capacity to push on no matter what the situation or if the odds be for us or against us.
Being generous with encouragement isn’t going to cost us a cent, the rewards though are beyond measure.
So, – encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today
