God’s Presence

Some more thoughts on worship, -

Repeating a definition of worship that I like: -” In Christianity, worship is considered the central act of Christian identity, the purpose of which is to give honour or worth to God”.

So my thought in this post is, – what can we bring to God when we worship Him?

3 things that spring to mind are: -

1/ YOURSELF, – you honour someone by simply showing up, a lot of people never bother turning up for public worship of God, – maybe thinking, God will understand my continued absence. Turning up is half the battle for most people.

2/ YOUR ATTITUDE, – our attitude is a choice, I’m here worshiping God because I have to be or because I want to be. Just look at the posture of people in a worship service and it will reveal a lot about their attitude to worshiping God. Always determine to bring a fantastic positive attitude with you.

3/ YOUR GIFT, – we might think what on earth could I give to God that He doesn’t already have. So you’ve turned up, your attitude is great, – you can then give Him what he doesn’t yet have, – that gift of your praise

The above INSIGHT is based upon Matthew 2 verses 1 – 11

In today’s world we often have trouble giving praise to someone even if it’s deserved praise.

Even as Christians we mimic what is around us in our secular culture and praise isn’t heard from our lips as often as it should be.

Taking this one step further – praise we give to people but worship is reserved for God and God alone.

It’s little wonder so many struggle with worship when praise is foreign and something unnatural.

My thought is if we become more natural and practiced at giving praise, so that maybe – just maybe when it comes to worshiping God it might come  a little more easily to us.

I love this definition of worship -

Worship - Human response to the perceived presence of the divine, a presence which transcends normal human activity and is holy

Church means different things to different people, – so here is maybe a divergent view, -
The original purpose of the church was to be a meeting place between God and man
Not a receiving place where man comes solely to receive from God
Church was created for you to give something of yourself to Him.
Sometimes as pastors we feel the expectation to almost be entertainers.
If good sermons and good songs were going to save the world, it would already be saved. Or if bad songs and bad sermons could save the world it would be saved ten times over.
The status quo isn’t working; – we can’t attract the world to our Churches.
We must get the God of the Church to them.
The Day of Pentecost the original gathering of the church in that Upper Room featured the dramatic entrance of the Holy Spirit, not the launch of a new chorus or even a preached message.
“Suddenly” there came an upper room experience where He threw open the windows of heaven and rushed down
That rushing in of God, – that suddenly of God, every thing else stopped, had to stop, – God was in the House.
Nothing can compare to the power released when God turns up in the light of His Glory.
When God turns up it won’t really matter who is singing or who is speaking, or who’s doing whatever – as long as He is there.
We try and attract man, thinking that’s our job, – but when will we learn
The primary purpose of the Church is to attract HIM

Getting that Throne Zone of God opened in our Church
Imagine Gods Glory settling down over this place.
Jacob of Old Testament fame stumbled across the gate of Heaven, so he set up some markers because he didn’t want to lose the place the position where he looked into heaven and saw God, and God spoke to him
Genesis 28:12- 17
12Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.13And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: “I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. 14Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. 15Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”
16Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! (Wouldn’t you say that?) This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”
Most people do what Jacob did. Set up some stones to mark the spot.
That song we sang maybe that was it that caused heaven to open
Or that prayer that was prayed
Or that particular sermon that was preached
When we all do this or that as a church that’s it, that draws the presence of God, – so we think.
We use temporal (natural) markers to try and locate a spiritual experience we had
Trying to mark the experience from eternity by natural means is impossible.

We need to mark the position and the hunger of the heart not the song.
Seek the anointer not the anointing
If He shows up you won’t need me or anyone else to lay hands on you.

Psalm 24:7 –“ Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of Glory shall come in”
